Isaac came to us when he was just a small boy, in 2005. He had been in the streets for two years already and was looking for a hot meal and a place to sleep. Isaac was living with his alcoholic mother and an older sister; their poverty was so extreme that he was sent out to the streets to find his own food and clothes. There was nothing for him at home.
Isaac was a naughty one! He spent years running away and coming back. He refused to do any work at home; he went to school, only to get into fights almost every day. He went to prison after stabbing an older boy. We even thought he might have some brain damage from early drug use and never be able to learn. In 2008, he was injured in town and came home asking to go to the farm. It was the beginning of healing for Isaac.
He is now 17 years old and a remarkably well behaved, hard-working young man. He did very well on his qualifying grade 8 exams and thanks to Hannah Whitlock, his sponsor, he has been given a place as a day scholar in an excellent private school. He is now living at Salvation Home, serving as an uncle and mentor for the new children who come off the streets.
